Halloween 1hr Project Horrific Money Box!

Halloween Horrific Money Box!
3D Severed Head Money box Project!

This is a project dedicate to my loving son Faiz who is a fan of Shaun the Sheep and Barney. The pictures are from the money box I created for my favorite neighbor Scooby Doo and Ben 10 Fan Damien.

First draw a picture of a monster like Frankenstein or The Mummy or Swamp Thing a Skeleton any creature you like! You can start creating! The fun of it is they can be stacked into a totem of horrific faces.

(i) You will need:

  1. A few sheets of paper
  2. A pen or pencil
  3. A multi use kitchen towel high absorbent roll(as it dries quickly and leaves your hands clean Warning! remember news paper ink is poisonous)
  4. An adhesive glue stick (not the runny type as it is pretty messy and it will not stick in the final touch)
  5. A masking paper tape
  6. A double edge tape or craft glue something that sticks cotton to tissue paper
  7. A permanent marker blue as it will come pink, light blue and  purple when water is on it
  8. A neon color Yellow,orange or green
  9. A bottle of PVA glue or 10 tablespoons flour and 1/2 cup water you need it not very thick
  10. A bag of cheap cotton balls.
  11. A pair of rounded scissors.
  12. A butter knife with a plastic handle (try to see if there is one you do not use to eat with otherwise ask someone to clean it with a stainless steel scrawler as plastic residue will be left on the tip)or a craft knife.(Important if you are young always ask an adult to help you.)
  13. A used coffee, powder milk or cereal food container tin with a plastic lid (as you need to make the money slot.)

(i)This is the type of tin I am talking about!

This is a step by step guide
A How To.
For beginners!

(i)Things you need
 "('o')"

Warning!Double check that no one has used it for other things eg.washing powder or other dangerous products that can be poisonous if you touch them and touch your eyes or mouth or if you want to store items like candy in it.

(i)Take some time and Check some pictures if you like on the internet to get an idea of the monster you want to create (do not try to make it very complicated as it will be a time waster and you will get stuck! Try to use doodles to make it quick and easy)

(i)A simple 2 minute sketch you will make into a 3D sculpture!

 This is step one ...

You simply roll the tape no need to over lap the tape.
The main point is that the tin will be a non slippery surface  otherwise the paper will not stick with the glue.

This is step two ...

Just cut straight shreds of kitchen tissue papers with your hand or with safe rounded scissors and separate in two if using a two ply tissue and stick with the adhesive horizontally than next layer vertically so they come strong this will dry quickly as the pores of the towel will help stick to the other tissue. Make two layers as later you have to add some layers it's enough.

This is step three ...
Now you have to imagine the face and draw it with a pencil on the dry tissue. No need to take care if some tissue will move as you will fix this later. Now is the time to put some muscle tissue in your zombie head or monster create the features you want. Now just stick a bit of double edge tape or some other glue, like craft glue to stick cotton to tissue.
Draw the doodle on the tissue and imagine where the eyebrows, falling eye balls, nose or crooked mouth are like this picture showing a hollow eyes skeleton similar to the face painting African tribes used to wear. Stick another layer on top of the cotton pieces you have stuck to the doodle the nose arch for eg.and press it with your fingers if you want add another layer of cotton and close it under the tissue make 2 or 3 layers more all around the finished head.

(i)This image can help a bit as to see the effect you need to make with the cotton.

(i)See the 3D profile it's Alive!

This is step four...

Warning! You need help from a steady hand adult with this task.It is really dangerous.

First you have to calculate the middle of the lid try to see the small bump in the middle here the form was cut if you cannot SEE IT USE A RULER!Now you have to use a permanent marker the thin line tip one and calculate the size. I used a 2 inch long and 4 mm wide line as I figured the largest coins will fit and a banknote will pass trough adjust as needed.Use a plastic handle butter knife or a craft knife open the blade a bit more as to take care that the plastic is not near the fire later when you use the small gas burner.
After you prepare the knife switch on the small gas burner on low flame.(I leave the tip of the knife for 30 seconds and perforate and repeat as necessary do not leave it a lot of time in the fire or else the lid will burn)

(i)Do not let it get cold and try to press as it may result in a split unusable lid.
Always tell someone to clean the craft knife as it will slip if you use it again for another craft.

Warning Do not try to touch the knife when it is burning or touch the fire.

This is step five . . .

Use the permanent marker draw the back of the head for now
Just draw and scribble away skulls cross bones pumpkins and bats your choice is as good as it gets.

(i) I used a table spoon of coffee and 2 table spoons of water mixed it very well (check it does not have milk or sugar as it will ruin the project)
to achieve a golden color I dabbed a cotton ball and dabbed the back of the skull with it.You can use a tea bag it can be used to create an old parchment effect  great for mummy bandages!

Let it dry a bit.

(i)This is the other side this is one creepy pumpkin!

 This is step six . . .

Finally the last steps this is the time to make the face!
Draw it with the permanent marker you chose.I used a navy blue one with the final touch it came pink and purple.
Pay great attention to the contours you created.
I wanted the teeth lines to be a bit more  deep so I created the illusion that the lines have a shadow so I made the lines and after I finished the project I repeated the lines.

Use a neon acrilic paint so it does not dissolve with water.

Let everything dry 10 minutes will be enough

(i)This is the side see the prominence in the features that is 3D!

The Final Step is to use the PVA glue  or mixture of flour and water (see top) and use a paint brush make it soggy wet and it's ready!

Let it dry!

Just retouch some colors to make them deep and you're done!

I hope you enjoyed this project!
